\nHow does this contribute to her vulnerability and fragility in the eyes of Ty?","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"33472124","body":"I think that Lucy Christopher portrays Gemma's relationship with her parents as quite fragile and it quite often is fractured, in terms of trust and respect.
\n
\nThis contributes to her vulnerability and fragility in Ty's eyes as she is often upset about her relationship with her parents and so she does things that she shouldn't. Also I feel that she needs someone to talk to being an only child, this makes it easier for Ty to find out information about her and distract her.","dateCreated":"1296542533","smartDate":"Jan 31, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"ZantheHeaton","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/ZantheHeaton","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"33472604","body":"I think that Lucy Christopher portrays Gemma's relationship with her parents as a bit of an unstable relationship. Sort of like Gemma and her parents are never really on the same page. At that point in the book they have just had a small fight. This contributes to Gemma's vulnerability in the eyes of Ty,seeing as Gemma is still annoyed with her parents and in a bit of a daze from their disagreement.
\nThen Ty comes up to her and starts treating her like she is the most important person to him, as if his world revolves around her. This totally shocks Gemma and she is curious to why he is so interested in her, as she is used to being treated like nobody special.
\nBy this point she is still in her slight daze and is quite enjoying being treated like this making it easier for Ty to reel her in.","dateCreated":"1296546001","smartDate":"Jan 31, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"emilymilnes","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/emilymilnes","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"33473110","body":"I think that Lucy Christopher portrays Gemmas relationship with her parents as awkward and that her parents are very busy people with their work, so they don't have as much time for Gemma as they would like, which contributes to having fights and making her feel unstable.
\nThis contributes to her vulnerability and fragility in the eyes of Ty as she seems as they she will open up to someone who seems kind enough, even if that person is a complete stranger. She could seem fragile if she has just had a fight and may look hurt or sad or both.","dateCreated":"1296549396","smartDate":"Feb 1, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"matthewpowell1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/matthewpowell1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"33473202","body":"Early on in Stolen, Lucy Christopher portrays Gemma as being caught up in the moment when she first meets her captor.
\n
\nGemma is slightly dazed by him but also, as she talks to him, is slightly anxious to get back to her parents and knows that she probably shouldn\u2019t be sitting alone with this stranger. But, a faint sense of curiosity as to why this stranger should be paying her attention, combined with gratitude for the free coffee, and her previous insecurities with her parents; lead to her sitting down with Ty.
\nHer previous insecurities within her relationship with her parents were partly due to the fact that they had just had a fight; which caused tension between them, and Gemma to go off and get a drink, which caused her meeting with her kidnapper.
\n
\nBut Lucy Christopher also portrays, in the manner of which Gemma speaks of her parents to Ty, that there is some sort of unhealthy distance in their relationship. This leads us to assuming that Gemma\u2019s parents do not really care for her; which is often an untrue assumption in these stories.
\nBut her fragile relationship with her parents at that moment in time really added very little in the eyes of Ty. I believe, whatever she felt, he was going to kidnap her then and there. To her captor, she was the one. But this vulnerability, meant a lot to her, and thus, as explained above, affected her actions.","dateCreated":"1296549895","smartDate":"Feb 1, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"TamaraHunt","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/TamaraHunt","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"33473508","body":"Early in the book, Gemma talks about how her parents are always on the move and fighting with eachother and her. This makes Ty see her as a weaker target because Gemma and her parents had a recent argument and were not going to come find her for a little while.

Gemma relationship with her parents is displayed to be a little fragile at times, and either daughter or parent could turn a little spiteful at a moment's notice.
